SHILLONG, JULY 17: Paying tribute to the legendary Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing on his 178th death anniversary, the KSU president Daniel Khyriem call on the people of the state to stand up, unite and fight against the various issues that are challenging the state.
Khyirem said, “Our society at present is facing lots of challenges and it is high time that a wakeup call needs to be given to the people and encourage them to look up and follow the footsteps left behind by this great warrior for a better tomorrow.”
Khyriem said, “We need to stand united and together we can protect our land.” Saying that influx is a matter of serious concern, he reiterated, “The state desperately needs a strong regulation to tackle the problem and the KSU have been demanding speedy implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) which will check influx that is threatening the indigenous people of the state.”
Khyriem also expressed his concern over the inability and reluctant of the state government to come up with the much needed education policy which is pending for so many years.
Khyirem pointed out the growing unemployment in the state is another big concern that is affecting the young educated youths. He said, “The state government however seems to be reluctant to address these issues including the unemployment problem.”
Reminding the people that the bravery and endurance of U Tirot Sing Syiem has led to freedom of the people, Khyriem said, “People including young and even elder citizens of the state should be brave enough to speak out for their rights and fight against all odd for a better future and a better society.”
Khyriem urged the people to speak out on various issues that concerns the all round development including education and environment.
Earlier,the KSU members paid floral tributes to the Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem, who had rebelled against the subjugation of the British empire, at the indoor stadium in the city.- By Our Reporter
