SHILLONG, OCT 27: The Republic Day celebration at Khyndailad was held with great fanfare like every year despite the twenty-four hours bandh call given by the HNLC.
The district administration organized a day long variety programme at Khyndailad points besides free entry at Wards Lake and Lady Hydari Park, kids’ play zone, games corner and food court was set up at Khyndailad, luscious sweet Indian delicacies like Jalabies, Lal Mohan, Tandori chicken, Papat chat etc., and exotic local cuisine like Jadoh, Doh Khlieh, Tung Rymbai was also available.
Enchanting music and dance were part of the celebration with rural artists showcasing Snap
Paka, Pynther Orchestra, Shad Kynjoh Khapiah and many more were displayed. Visitors were enamored by the exquisite arrangement put up at the Khyndailad point. Young and old alike thronged the festival, treating their loved ones, clicking and posing a midst the backdrop.
Members of the Shillong Round Table which is a Shillong chapter of Round Table India also took active part in the celebration by distributing free Indian flags, sweet and water to all the public both in Parade ground and Khyndailad Point.
According to East Khasi hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal there was a very good response from members of the public as people came out in thousands to attend the programme at Khyndailad. “Almost normal vehicular movement was seen on the road” he said.- By Our Reporter
