SHILLONG, AUG 28: Armed with anti-ordinance flags and placards, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) members took out a two-wheeler-rally demanding scrapping of the ordinance.
Kicked started from Student’s Field, Jaiaw, the rally led by two KHNAM MDCs’ of the KHADC – Adelbert Nongrum and James Ban Basaiawmoit- snaked through the different parts of the city and its suburbs.
The rally was organized to create awareness among the citizens of the city and its surrounding on the ‘ill-effects’ of the ordinance if it is allowed to become an Act which will impact the traditional system.
“This Ordinance will only wipe out all the traditional customs and belief of our people and by organizing this two-wheeler rally we want to open the eyes of the people regarding the ‘ills’ which is in this Ordinance,” KHNAM working president Adelbert Nongrum said.
He said that the second aim of the rally is to try and create awareness among the people so that they become aware of what the Ordinance is really about so are not misled by anyone in the future.
“We don’t want to oppose against the Ordinance just through the word of mouth but also through actions,” Nongrum said adding that this is just the beginning of their fight to demand from the state government that they should immediately scrap the Ordinance.
Nongrum warned that if the government is still silent on their demands KHNAM will chalk out other course of action to pressurise them.- By Our Reporter
