SHILLONG, APR 20: Aggrieved and qualified Gram Sevika candidates served a ten-day deadline to the state government to grant extension of the merit list failing which they threatened to stage an ‘indefinite hunger strike’. The decision was taken after the state government failed to consider re-extension of the merit list and instead contemplated to‘re-advertise’ the posts of Gram Sevika in East Khasi hills district.
The validity of the merit list for the post of Gram Sevika expired on August 21, 2013.
Only two candidates who qualified have been given appointment out of the 12 candidates (all are females) declared as successful by the DSC of East Khasi hills district on August 21, 2012.
“We demanded the government to extend the merit list to ensure that all the remaining 10 successful candidates get job appointment within 10 days,” one of the aggrieved candidates B Jyrwa, who is the leader of the group, told reporters at a news conference on Monday.
The aggrieved candidates also vowed to follow the footsteps of the Grade IV DSC candidates who were given appointment after massive agitations.
Jyrwa warned that they would be compelled to launch an indefinite hunger strike like the Grade IV candidates if the state government fails to comply to their demand.”
Stating that there was no mentioned about the number of vacant posts in the advertisement for the post of Gram Sevika, Jyrwa said, “But, the DSC had gone on declaring us as successful candidates. This has given hopes that we would be getting jobs.”
The state government had earlier directed all departments that it is mandatory to publish the number of vacancy posts in the advertisements.-By Our Reporter
