SHILLONG, JAN 11: The Justice (Rerd) SP Rajkhowa Commission probing into the sensational 2009 ‘Shillong-jailbreak’ submitted its findings to the Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma Friday.
Sangma confirmed receiving the report and told reporters, “I have received the report. It is still in a seal form and it will be not be open now since election dates have been announced,”
The report was submitted after examining the arguments from the Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMoD) and government counsels held in December last year.
Justice (Rtd) S P Rajkhowa who headed the commission, was appointed by the state government in 2009 to probe the circumstances which led to the escape of seven under trial prisoners on May 31, 2009and the killing of the ring leader Fullmoon Dhar in an alleged fake encounter with the police the next day.
The Meghalaya government had initially appointed Justice (retd) D Biswas to conduct the judicial probe into the incident but he had to handover the probe to Justice Rajkhowa on August as he was appointed the Up-Lokayukta in Assam in April 2010. – By Our Reporter
