SHILLONG, NOV 22: Former state minister and UDP leader JA Lyngdoh formally joined the BJP at a function even as he claimed that the saffron party would form the new government in the state.
“The BJP, which is ruling at the Centre as well as Assam, will also form a new government in the state as the situation has changed,” Lyngdoh said while speaking on the occasion.
He said there was a time when the Congress party used to tell the people not to vote for regional parties since the Congress government is at the Centre.
He, however, said now it is only the BJP which can bring changes and development in the state and the country even as he assured his cooperation to further strengthen the party in Meghalaya.
On his decision to joined the party, Lyngdoh said that he first fell in love with the BJP during the tenure of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership the Ministry of DoNER was created for the development of NE region.
Lyngdoh, who is also preparing to contest against sitting Congress legislator Roshan Warjri, who is presently the Health minister, claimed that his defeat in the last election in 2013 was due to delimitation factor.
In his speech, BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said that the party has decided to contest all the seven vacant seats in the upcoming ADC bye-election with the aim to further strengthen the traditional institutions.
While urging the people to campaign extensively for the BJP candidates, he said that the bye elections will be a major test for the party .
Supporters of JA Lyngdoh and party functionaries were also present on the occasion as he along with his 10 senior supporters were felicitated after joining the party.
Stating the Congress leadership has failed the the state, he added that some of his friends are waiting for the right time to join the BJP.
