SHILLONG, MAY 23: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) today said it is augmenting the supply of cooking gas from Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) bottling plant in West Bengal to meet the demand in the north east including Meghalaya.
According to the IOC officials, there has been marginal supply all over north east region due to the partial shutdown of the bottling plant in north Guwahati.
Meghalaya, where the demand for cooking gas is about 1300 metric tons per day, is also facing the problem of huge shortage of LPG supply.
A team of IOC officials which arrived in the city for holding a meeting with the distributors said that in order to meet the demand, the corporation is augmenting the supply from bottling plants in nearby state like West Bengal.
“We are concern of the backlog that is there and we are committed to resolve it,” Chief LPG Manager in-charge Indian Oil AOD Bimal Patak told reporters on Monday.
He informed that till today the corporation has been able to meet the 89 percent of demand out of 1300 MT required in Meghalaya.
According to him, the IOC is supplying LPG to the state from the bottling plant at Sarpara near Mirza besides the plant in north Guwahati, which is under renovation.
Earlier, the IOC in a meeting with the district administration of East Khasi hills district has also assured to improve the supply of LPG in the city.
On the issue of black marketing, the IOC officials said that the issue will be taken up with the district administration for conducting joint raids.-By Our Reporter
