SHILLONG, NOV 11: The Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB) sweeper Subhash Chakraborty was arrested by police for impersonating as an IPS officer and also seized incriminating documents from his residence on Monday. The police laid a trap for the thirty-four year old impersonator and arrested him from Keating road.
East Khasi hills Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem told newsmen that the police also recovered documents that show him posing as an intelligence officer and immediately swung into action by raiding his residence at Sweeper’s line in Cantonment area.
“Documents showing that Chakraborty belongs to IPS cadre and Air Force were recovered besides a whole lot of items such as fake plastic pistol, uniform, belts, wireless phone used by officers of special units, lots of books pertaining to civil service,” Syiem informed even as he displayed these items.
Among the documents that were recovered by the police from Chakraborty residence was army recruitment forms duly filled in by aspiring candidates from different parts of the city.
Syiem said, “Huge amount of documents which may indicate that he (Chakraborty) is involved in recruitment scams were also seized.” He also expressed his apprehension that many people might have been duped by the imposter.
Syiem said the police cannot off the cuff say how and when Chakraborty started pose as a police officer and felt only after investigation would police be in a position to know the motives and the depth of posing as a police officer. He said, “Will try to find out whether he has accomplices with him for his activities or not.”
Chakraborty is said to have hasjoined as a sweeper in the Cantonment board in 1991. However, his educational qualification is yet to be known.
Syiem said the police will also inform the authorities from the army about the matter. Chakraborty has been booked under section relating to impersonating and cheating. – By Our Reporter
