SHILLONG, APR 25: The thirteen pro Inner Line Permit (ILP) ngos demanding for the implementation of the ILP in the state said before verbalizing their views to the government , they wish to listen to the state government ‘s stand on the issue during the upcoming meeting slated on April 29.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the NGOs held in the city here on Friday.
The ngos will also put their views before the state government on the proposed points that are needed to be incorporated in the exiting Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act,1873. They will also demand immediate release of their members booked under the Meghalaya Prevention Detention Act (MDPA) in their next round of meeting.
“We would prefer to listen to the state government on what it has to say regarding its stand on the demand for the immediate implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) system to check inflow of illegal influx into the state before expressing our views and opinions,” Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) president Daniel Khyriem said after the informal meeting of the ngos on Friday.
The ngos had earlier said that the points they proposed for inclusion will ensure that Meghalaya has a strong and effective ILP to check and prevent illegal influx into the state.
The ngos also said that the proposed points aim at bringing a comprehensive mechanism within the ILP which will suit the local condition of the state.- By Our Reporter
