SHILLONG, JULY 3: The HSPDP Mawthadraishan Constituency Area Unit has demanded the sitting MDC Blandingstar Warjri to resign as member of the KHADC for allegedly backstabbing the party and its supporters.
“We demand him (Warjri) to immediately resign as an MDC because he has no moral right to continue in the post as it is the party which ensures his victory,” HSPDP-MCAU secretary Grossper Ryntathiang said in a statement issued here.
Warjri was elected on an HSPDP ticket as the new MDC of Mawthadraishan in the bye-elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) held in December, last year.
The demand for his resignation came after the MDC decided to go against the party’s decision by continuing to support the ruling People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) in KHADC led by suspended Congress member Pynshngain N Syiem.
Warjri also allegedly went missing during the recently concluded Council’s Budget session, which has prompted the HSPDP leaders to file a missing complaint with the police.
Terming his action as an act of backstabbing and betrayal against the party leadership and its supporters who supported him during the bye-elections, Ryntathiang said, “We strongly condemned him for within six months, he has broken his promises made to stand by the principle of the party, which has made him won the bye-election.”
“He has also disrespected the supporters without whose support, he would not be able to win the election,” he added.
Meanwhile, the HSPDP Mawthadraishan also urged the leaders and supporters of the party’s primary units not to be misled by the MDC who has betrayed the party.
According to Ryntathiang, the party is full prepared to ensure victory from the constituency in the upcoming 2018 state elections.
