SHILLONG, FEB 19: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has confirmed that senior KSU leader Fedrick Kharmawphlang along with 13 other has joined the outfit to protest the government’s failure to protect the interest of the indigenous people. HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw has confirmed Kharmawphlang’s joining the outfit’s arm struggle in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Kharmawphlang, a graduate from the North Eastern Hill University, was elected vice president of the Khasi Students Union in 2012 before announcing that he has left the KSU ad joined the HNLC on Tuesday night. Kharmawphlang resignation letter was sent to the KSU president Daniel Khyriem and general secretary Auguster Jyrwa requesting them to remove name from the top post he was holding.
In a statement the Sainkupar said, “The HNLC has welcome the stand taken by Frederick Kharmawphlang and 13 others under his leadership to join the council. These youths were victims of the Indian political system; they were hunted by the police for many months as if they were terrorists, just because they supported the implementation of ILP.” Sainkupar said that many other members from several ngos had joined the council to support its stand for an armed political struggle to retain the Hynniewtrep sovereign state. He said, “These youths have sacrificed a lot and their family members should feel proud of them. They have chosen the path of warriors and together we will fight the Enemy.” “The HNLC once again issues an open invitation to all concerned youths to come and join hands with the council and fight for our Hynñiewtrep cause,”
Sainkupar said in a statement. Sainkupar also appealed to all the ngos of the Hynñiewtrep to expand the ILP struggles into a human rights issue as it is their legitimate right to protect the interests of the “Nation.” Sainkupar said that the ILP is in the pocket of the national party in Delhi and within the framework of the Indian constitution, adding “After all this if the Indian government arrests and eliminates all the pro ILP activists, no other “nations” or neighbouring countries would interfere into this matter because this is a domestic affair and the Indian government will be the jury, and it will be the judge at the same time at the same game ; So we will be far away from Justice.”
Sainkupar said that is why the HNLC is of the opinion to expand the issue of ILP into human right issues. The UN charter has recognised the right to self determination of indigenous peoples and all the concerned ngos of the Hynñiewtrep should present the issue of human rights under and in front of the UN.
According to Sainkupar, the issue of ILP or any Hynniewtrep national questions will neither fall under the restriction nor come under the jurisdiction of the Indian Supreme Court or Indian government. After all this, if the GOI violates our human rights then the chief minister, governor, president and PM will be under the trial of the world court, Sainkupar added. Sainkupar said the ILP is just a pocket issue of Hindustan, the union government wants to implement it then it can be done easily, but if not then the Hynniewtrep has no feet to stand upon.
Sainkupar questioned, “How many more of our youths will be arrested and shot down by Hindustan government? Sainkupar said no countries will come to the rescue of the Hynniewtrep except the UN. The UNPO (Unrepresented Nations Peoples Organisation)is also there to safeguard the interests of small nations. The Naga movement is also a part of this organisation and hence it is protected under the umbrella of the UNPO, he concurred. – By Our Reporter
