SHILLONG, FEB 6: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has re-organised its central executive committee (CEC) to continue with the council’s struggle.
The new CEC is being headed by Bobby Marwein as its chairman cum commander-in-chief and Sainkupar Nongtraw as general secretary cum publicity secretary.
The other leaders include Khrawbok Jyrwa as vice chairman, Alex Diengdoh as foreign secretary, Wanshan Marwein as finance secretary, Riewpyrkhat Sun as organising secretary and M Rynjah as socio cultural secretary.
“The CEC of the HNLC has been re-organised to re-motivate and carry on with the council’s struggle to achieve its ideology,” Nongtraw said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He informed that the new CEC, which was elected on January 2, had witnessed an oath taking ceremony at an undisclosed location ‘Krem Tirot’.
“We (leaders) take the firm oath that we shall work selflessly for safeguarding the interests of our people,” he said.
Stating that the Council is not against any race or religion, the general secretary however said, “But in order to prevent our people from the brutal mindset of mainland India, we have but no choice than to take up the armed movement.”
Meanwhile, the HNLC also appealed to the various ‘Hynñiewtrep’ pressure groups to stand united and not to be divided based on political motivations.
“The KSU, FKJGP, RBYF, HNYF, HANM, HYC, JSU, JYF etc are the pillars of the Hynñiewtrep, they should join hands together and keep their indifferences behind keeping in mind the primary interest of the Hynñiewtrep people,” Nongtraw said.
He said simply singing “Ri Khasi Ri Khasi, Nga ieid ia pha” without unity whereas our ‘Jaidbynriew’ is on the verge of sinking.
“It is upto our people to decide whether we need to see a change or we get into chains. It is time we come together under one voice to fight for the national existence of our Hynñiewtrep,” the general secretary added.
