Shillong, Sept 19: Countering claims made by the Border Security Force (BSF) on the surrender of its cadre Jingkyrmen Wanñiang, aka Tom, the Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Wednesday issued a statement saying Wanñiang was “not of sound mind, and earlier he had met with an accident which had an impact in his thinking abilities.”
A statement released by the HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “Even the family members of the cadre are aware of the fact that he was not in a suitable state of mind.”.
Nongtraw clarified that the cadre had “escaped his designated camp with an amount of Rs. 17 lakhs along with an AK-47, thirty rounds of ammunitions and a hand grenade.”
Taking a dig at the BSF, the statement said, “Is this not a matter of surprise as to where did the money along with the weapons disappeared. Was the money distributed among the security forces??? It is a matter of embarrassment as the BSF was not even aware when the chairman of the GNLA was handed over to the Indian Government.
The HNLC statement said that the case of surrender is a ploy and propaganda of the BSF to “divulge lies into the minds of public regarding the council,” questioning, “if the BSF was so honest in its works then why did they hide the Rs 17 lakhs and weapons?”- By Our Reporter
