SHILLONG, JUNE 6: The ANVC (B) said the visit by state home minister Roshan Warjri to Garo hills is too late as many lives have been lost due to deteriorating law and order situation. “If she (Warjri) had intervened earlier, things would have been better,” ANVC(B) chairman Rimpu N Marak said in a statement issued on Friday.
Expressing its solidarity with the family members of late Josbin M Sangma, Marak said, “It is sad how Josbin’s children had to witness the gruesome incident.” He, however, was of the opinion that Warjri can still justify her visit by meeting the family members of other victims.
According to Marak it is the minister discretion either to restore peace through talks or to see the present situation deteriorating by using force.
Marak informed there are many organisations which include well trained ANVC(B) cadres who are desperately scattered at the moment adding “State government’s continuous operation and failure to provide designated camps have forced them to return to the jungle.”
Marak said the government should consider this angle so as not to allow the present situation from becoming worse.
Pointing out that the demands of various ngos are genuine, Marak said, “An ex gratia of Rs one lakh is too less and if the government thinks a precious life has been lost, it must treat with genuine respect and sincerity by fulfilling the demands of social organisations.”- By Our Reporter
