SHILLONG, MAY 14: Home Minister, James K Sangma today inaugurated the Cyber Crime Investigation Centre, Online FRO (Foreigner’s Registration Office) and launched the West Garo Hills District Police Website at Tura in West Garo Hills District.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma congratulated the police department for this wonderful initiative and also for working tirelessly to make this initiative a success. He said that this would go a long way to ensure safety, provide better coordination and better service delivery to the people of the region. Further, he hopes that launching of FRO will ensure and help tourist especially from abroad to get visas and other necessary information online.
Terming technology as a doubled edged sword, he said that cyber crime is the light of the day in this technology driven era since it helps us and at the same time it can harm us too.
While expressing his concern as a father, he is worried to see children and youth glued to mobile phones, internet, etc since we cannot follow our children everywhere and the impact it creates if they do not know to analyse it well.
Further, with regard to the style and functioning of the police department, the Home Minister lauded the State Police Force as the best in the country and hopes that they will continue to ensure safety for the citizens in the district.
Emphasizing on the maximum amount of time spent by the people surfing the internet these days, South Tura MLA Agatha Sangma said that giving awareness to the people is necessary on the method of using it for good and fruitful activities and to avoid using it for not so good purpose which can harm ones activities.
Referring to the increasing cyber crime occurring everywhere in the era of technology and internet, DGP S B Singh seeks the support and cooperation of all while implementing the service successfully to the people. He then informed that the centres will be extended to the other districts as well in the later stage with more research and improved infrastructure.
With regard to Online FRO, he said that information updated should be verified since it provides vital information to the people.
R Kumar, Superintendent of Police, WGH, Tura briefed the gathering about the objectives and importance of the launching of the District Police Website which provides basic information of the district, traffic guidelines and mobile numbers for airing their grievances.
The Chief Guest along with other dignitaries felicitated Chesilonora A Sangma for achieving Highest Mark in Garo MIL in HSSLC Science Examination, Nishtha Barman Hajong for achieving 6th Position in Merit List of HSSLC Science Examination and Achievers of 3rd Goodwill Open National Taekwondo Championship, 2018 held from April 29 to 30 in Amguri College Indoor Stadium, Sivasagar.
Earlier during the function, M G R Kumar, Superintendent of Police, WGH, Tura welcomed the gathering while John C A Sangma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, WGH, Tura proposed the vote of thanks.
Students of Pechon Memorial Police Public School, Tura presented various cultural items during the inaugural function.
