SHILLONG, AUG 17: Meghalaya Information Technology (IT) minister AL Hek has directed the IT department to submit a proposal for the infrastructure that is required for setting up the proposed IT Park in New Shillong Township (NST)
Hek recently held a review meeting with the IT officers on the need to put up the necessary infrastructure in the IT park that would provide the much needed boost to the IT industry and provide employment to the local youths.
Talking to reporters , AL Hek said,” I have directed the department to submit a proposal for everything that is required in the park.” He pointed out that infrastructure holds a key in the success of the IT park and major private players who would come only if necessary infrastructure is in place.
Hek was of the opinion that it is not possible for the project to take off until and unless all the infrastructure is in place. He said for the IT industry to grow in the state , the state need better roads, optical fibre cable and twenty-four hours power supply and other requirements.
More than fifteen consultancies had responded to the expression of interest floated by the State Information Technology department for the proposed park
In the proposed park, huge infrastructure will be set up where IT companies would establish their business and it would include centres and workshops for all the IT related equipments and other infrastructure.
Hek also told reporters that many private companies have expressed their willingness to venture into Meghalaya and do their business here
A massive eighty acres of land has been allotted to the Information Technology department for construction of the IT Park at NST.- By Our Reporter
