SHILLONG, AUG 10: Meghalaya health minister AL Hek Hek said during the first phase of MHIS that was launched in 2012, the scheme provided health insurance benefits to 766 patients from the Pynthorumkhrah area with a total claim of more than Rs.30 lakhs and appealed to the beneficiaries to act as the ambassador and spread the benefits of this health scheme to others.
Launching the second phase of MHIS-II for Pynthorumkhrah area at Golflink Community hall on Monday , Hek urged the people to come forward and enroll themselves and avail the benefits provided in the scheme. He also informed that the scheme is available to all the people of the state except state and central government employees.
MR Synrem, Secretary of Health & Family Welfare and CEOof MHIS, Dr. M Borthakur, Director of MCH & FW, Dr. SS Dohling, DMHOof East Khasi Hills, Dr. J Lyngwa, additional, DMHO of East Khasi Hills, Rangbah Shnong, Secretaries of Golflink, Pynthorumkhrah, Mawpat, Nongmensong, Langkyrding Mihngi, Lumshyiap were among others who were present at the launch of MHIS-II
Elaborating that the scheme aims at providing financial aid at the time of hospitalization and treatment and reduce the out-of-pocket expenses of the beneficiaries, Hek informed that the MHIS-II would provide insurance cover for hospitalization and treatment for a wide range of diseases which include cost related for MRI and CT scan in all government hospitals, NEIGHRIMS, empanelled private hospitals in the State and outside the State which are located in Guwahati, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
Synrem informed the gathering that under the scheme, beneficiaries will be entitled up to Rs. 2 lakh coverage at the time of hospitalization on a floater basis and it is extendable up to five members of a family, where each household has to pay Rs. 30 annually at the time of enrollment.
Synrem said the department target to achieve 100 percent enrolment in the second phase adding that the government has signed an agreement with New India Assurance Company Ltd for the implementation of the second phase of the scheme.
Earlier in the day, Hek and other dignitaries distributed Smart Cards to the beneficiaries who have enrolled for the scheme. – By Our Reporter
