SHILLONG, OCT 21: Meghalaya high court has directed the Meghalaya government to file a reply through an affidavit as to why the government is closing down the Meghalaya Rural Development Society (MRDS). The directive came from on October 1 after beneficiaries of the MRDS filed a writ petition before the high court challenging the government’s decision to close the MRDS . The court has given the state government up to October 31 to file its reply when the matter would be again listed before the court
It is learnt that there are more than fifteen lakhs beneficiaries of the MRDS and forty four thousand households have been covered by the society in five districts of the state. The MRDS is implementing projects in Ri Bhoi, East Khasi hills, Jaintia hills, South Garo hills and East Garo hills. – By Our Reporter
