Govt to soon notify textbook review committee

SHILLONG, AUG 29: The State government will soon notify the textbook review committee to bring changes in certain textbooks and to ensure the same have more local contents in them.

“The textbook review committee is going to be notified so we will be giving some deadline to the committee (for making necessary) recommendations to the government,” Adviser to the education department Himalaya M Shangpliang told reporters on Tuesday.

He said that the textbook review committee is one of the various committees which are in the pipeline as part of preparation for implementation of the new education policy at the school level.

Shangpliang said that the textbook review committee will also provide a lot suggestions and recommendations to the government to bring in a new syllabus, a new curriculum with textbooks containing a lot of local contents

“We are in the mind of exercising to bring in NCERT textbooks too in the present context through the MBOSE,” he added.

When asked, the adviser said, “The textbook committee will go into the changes that need to be brought in certain  books. Maybe  we would like to change or add on certain chapters or certain topics in certain subjects be it geography, be it science and so on.

Therefore, we would like this textbook committee to go into this depth to see that the textbook of our children should have local contents. Our children of the state should know the history of Meghalaya, should know geography of Meghalaya and many things about Meghalaya as the (present) books are just brought from outside and they have lots of other contents but not much about Meghalaya. Therefore, we need to bring certain changes in certain books at the school level.”
