Shillong, Feb 7: The Meghalaya government on Friday will be sending seven more laws on the subject pertaining to controlling influx to the pro-ILP ngos who have suspended their agitation as they want to study the fifty two laws on influx before meeting the government again. This will be the second lots of the laws that the government will be sending to the ngos.
Meghalaya political department official told this website on Friday that the first lots of laws on influx had been sent to the ngos as demanded. He said, “The first lots also consist of seven laws and the second lots which will be dispatched by today evening will also have seven laws on influx.”
The political department official informed that the ngos have not given the government any specific deadline for sending the laws on influx to them.
The pro-ILP ngos had launched a prolong agitation last year demanding for the implementation of the ILP in the state to stop influx. But the government refused saying that there are other mechanism which are effective for stopping flow of illegal migrants into the state. The Meghalaya government had even passed the Meghalaya Regulation of Landlords And Tenants Verification Bill but the ngos had refused to accept it.
Early this year the ngos had accepted the invitation for talks by the government to discuss over the ILP issue. The meeting ended with the ngos agreeing to study the fifty two laws that deal with influx and again meet the government. – By Our Reporter
