TURA, APR 17: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on Friday warned government doctors to stop functioning from their private clinics and instead attend to patents only in the hospitals..
In a statement issued on Friday GNLA joint publicity secretary Garo Mandei Marak said, “We stand for the poor, we stand for the public. We are not doing this for our own interest but for the benefit of the people. We appeal to the people not to meddle with our work. We request everyone to cooperate”.
The GNLA warned medical officers, doctors not to defy its order warning of serious consequence if they dared to overlook. “Time and again we have appealed and requested to the medical authorities, now the time is over so don’t waste your time blaming us that we have not warned”, the release stated.
On the parking fee collected by Tura Civil hospital, GNLA said that it is illegal and should be stopped immediately. “This can be seen in the angle that instead of rendering service to the sick and the needy they are extorting from the visitors who come for treatment from all corners of Garo hills”, the statement said.
The statement asked, “Where have anyone seen hospital authorities collecting parking fees in India?” It said if the collection of parking fees were meant for the welfare of the patients and the needy then why the need of extra earnings where government doctors rushes to their clinics and attending to those who can afford to pay fees and buy the medicines they prescribe in their own run clinics.
The statement said the government run medical institution is meant for the poor and needy and their sole objective of the government medical officers and doctors is to serve them.
The statement further said that the authorities of Civil hospital Tura have defied them, the NGOs and public appeal and warned that they must now put a stop to this illegal practice immediately.
Such practice is against the law of district administration, it said warning that the outfit had given them enough time to stop this illegal practice and now it doesn’t not want to hear another explanations.- From Our Correspondent
