Shillong, Oct 14: A GNLA militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces army personnel Sunday morning at Memlam village under the Mednipathar police station in North Garo hills district. The incident occurred at about 9 am.
According to sources there was exchange of fire between the security personnel and GNLA militants after the police was informed the security forces consisting of the army and the police stormed the hideout of the GNLA in Memlam.
As soon as the security personnel reached near the hideout the GNLA members who were heavily armed open fire on them. In the exchange of fire between the GNLA and the security forces, one GNLA members was killed.
The rest of the GNLA members managed to escape. According to informed sources there were altogether nine GNLA members and eight of them managed to escape. The fleeing militants left behind a pistol and ammunition.
Police took the body of the slain militant to Mendipathar CHC for postmortem. The security forces are conducting operation to nail down the rest of the GNLA militants who managed to escape. –By Our Reporter
