GNLA denies pump attack

SHILLONG, MAR 3: The GNLA has denied police allegation that it is involved in throwing crude bomb at petrol pump in Shallang, West Khasi Hills that injured two employees and said it is just police’s guesswork. GNLA publicity secretary Garo Mandei Ch Marak said in a press statement issued on Tuesday that there are countless groups of gangs and petty dacoits who are
extorting money and serving demand notes in the name of the GNLA.

Marak said one recent example is when police arrested few criminals from Rari Bazaar when they were engaged in collecting money after serving demand notes earlier in GNLA’s name. He said, “The GNLA did not serve demand notes side to the pump
manager as alleged by police.”

Marak also asserted that the GNLA do not intend to hurt anyone who are small-time attendants’ doing their work. He said GNLA cadres are not encouraged to throw crude bombs or anything like that by where public would be harmed.

Marak said there are gangs posing as GNLA and demanding money in the outfit’s name. He said it will be good if police catch these small time dacoits who are harassing the general public in the name of the GNLA.- By Our Reporter
