SHILLONG, OCT 26: The thirteen ngos demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) announced its fresh agitations with a three-day statewide ‘night road blockade’ from October 29. The night road blockade with be effective from 7 PM to 5 AM in the eleven districts of the state from October 29 to October 31.
Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Tengsak G Momin said in a release issued on Saturday night that the decision was taken at a meeting of the pro ILP groups in Garo hills today. He said the reason for the pro ILP groups to continue with their agitations is because the state government led by chief minister Mukul Sangma has turned a deaf ear towards the demand for implementation ILP to check and curb unabated inflow of illegal migrants into the state.
Momin said, “The government instead of implementing the ILP has decided to introduce the proposed Regulation of Landlords and Tenants Verification Bill which is absolutely in contrary to the people’s wish.” – By Our Reporter
