SHILLONG, FEB 24: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) and the People’s Mission on Wednesday threatened to file a joint police complaint against the contractors for allegedly cheating the people with a sub-standard road from Mawmaram to Mawlaingut under Sohiong Constituency.
Equally blaming the engineers supervising the road constructions, they have also decided to file corruption cases against them.
“We intend to file a joint FIR after collection of documents from the related departments with regards to the roads, as the contractor/s of this stretch of road has misused public fund and cheated the people with a very sub- standard road,” CSWO and People’s Mission said in a joint statement.
They also said, “Since the engineer supervising has ignored the conditions of the road when they are paid to provide good public services to the public and cases of corruption will be filed against those helping disrupt services to the public due to bribes and commissions.”
Expressing that they are appalled at the condition of the road going down towards Sohiong, which has been in a bad and dangerous condition for years, they said, “But we find it very strange that many officials of the state travel this way, yet conditions of roads go unnoticed by all plying the route, even when as government servants they have to report the matter to the state. Worse is the road before reaching Mawmaram junction.”
They informed that the condition of the road from Mawmaram to Mawlaingut, falling under Sohiong constituency was also evident to have been badly constructed and at places was hurriedly patched up with sand from the sides of the road, most probably, for the ministers visit as the CSWO and members of the People’s Mission were informed that the minister HDR Lyngdoh graced the inauguration of the 49th Branch of the Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank at Krang, East Khasi Hills District on the February 23, 2016.
“We hope that the minister who is a representative of the people, will immediately file a complaint with the PWD on the bad condition of the road going down towards Sohiong , the road before reaching Mawmaram junction, the road from Mawmaram to Mawlaingut, falling under Sohiong constituency which causes inconvenience to the public at large and also cause loss to public fund and property and endangers lives when lose stones/pebbles are lying on the road, and also to patients travelling this route and he should immediately demand repairs of the road by the contractor/s at their cost for having cheated the public off their funds,” they said.
The CSWO and People’s Mission also said that the road in Mawripih Village, East Khasi hills district, too was constructed very poorly just giving a slight coat of bitumen for road metalling which would deteriorate in few months’ time.
“This is cheating the people off their money and roads all across the state in rural areas are in a pathetic condition due to the apathy of some engineers who corrupt the public funds along with ministers and officials who ignore the bad construction,” they stated.-By Our Reporter
