SHILLONG, AUG 20: A three day regional workshop on “Assessment and Examination Practice at Secondary Stage” under RMSA kicked off at the North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE)- National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Umiam on Tuesday.
The workshop has been organized to share information on the assessment and examination practices and the learning indicators of the secondary level of education carried out by different state boards of the region under the overall objectives of Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyaan (RMSA), a flagship program of Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
The workshop was inaugurated by EP Kharbih, executive chairman of Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) and also the Commissioner & Secretary, Education.
Kharbih appreciated the participation of all the regional states and emphasized on the need to look at the models and approaches of the respective state and other states and identify the best practices and make use of them.
Kharbih also said that when assessment process is discussed, the first and foremost focus should be the child followed by curriculum, instruction materials and subjects, teachers and others. He further asked participants to view assessment, evaluation and examination in sync with the quality of education.
Prof. Subhas Chandra Roy, Principal in-charge of NERIE urged participants to view this workshop in the light of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), which at present is limited to class VIII as per the RTE Act and the various concerns that have emerged researched worldwide research on examinations and assessments in schools.
‘At the end of the workshop, we will be able to see the complete picture of the NE States and will be able to come up with a plan of action’, Roy said.
The participants comprised of officials of state board of school, SCERT, DIET and RMSA from all the north eastern states except Arunachal Pradesh. During the three day programme, there will be also be presentations on the system and practices of assessment and evaluation of various boards as well as group discussion to share the future vision of assessment and examinations.- By Our Reporter
