TURA, NOV 21: Druma Sandruma thrashed Maram Football Club with 4-0 to lift the Tura Football League trophy in the Super
Division match on Saturday at Dikki Bandi Stadium.
Druma Sandruma displayed all its spirit and gusto in the ground and posed a severe challenge for Maram FC, one of the best football clubs of Garo hills.
In the first half, Misorsing Marak scored goal for Druma Sandruma. Later in second half, Misor scored two more goals. Jacky Sangma also scored a goal for Druma Sandruma.
Tura Football League is a professional tournament held for the past four years by the District Football Association (DFA), Tura. It includes three categories – Division B, Division A and Super Division.
Abdul Salam of Maram FC was declared the player of the league.
Project Director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Dikki D Shira and President of DFA Jasper Marak gave away the trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners up.
Players of Druma Sandruma also won several titles — Jacky Sangma as player of the final and best half, Bising Marak as best forward and highest scorer of the series was Misorsingh Marak, who scored 8 goals.
Silrak Marak of 2nd Meghalaya battalion as best goalkeeper. Rikrak Marak of Maram won the title of best defender.
Speaking at the award distribution ceremony, Jasper Marak thanked the participating teams, clubs, partners, sponsors and organizing committee for putting up a football event, which saw overwhelming response. He also thanked the audience for being part of the series by purchasing tickets to support the game.
Buddha Dev Prasad of ICFAI University Meghalaya expressed its gratitude to the organisers for putting up a good event to encourage football in Garo hills. He said, “It would be our endeavour to support sports in Garo hills as we always want to engage and connect the youths in the spirit of unity”.
Daryl Momin of William Initiative said, “The month long football tournament has demonstrated football talents of the region, who needs to be guided and further horned. We are happy that we were able to partner with DFA to support the game”.
On Friday last, Chipakkore Football Club defeated West Balalgre to win the title of Division A. Both the teams will play in the Super Division in the next season. The Division A match was witnessed by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma.
Titles: The division A title was given away to Jaksram Marak and Chigrik Sangma of Chipakkore as best goalkeeper and best defender, while player of the league and final match was given to Silsrang Sangma.
Biketo Marak of Friends Wagon as best half, Phillip Marak of Balalgre as best forward, Pilman Marak scored eight goals to be declared the highest scorer.
