TURA,SEPT 18: Dobasipara won the title of “Forever Young 35 Plus Football Tournament 2016” thrashing Tura Runner Club team in a thrilling match held yesterday at Chandmari playground with 1-0.
In the first half of the match Dimseng Marak of Dobasipara scored the goal and solidified its position. Tura Runners Club tried its level best but had to taste defeat as Dobasipara team was all charged up.
Superintendent Engineer of PWD and an ardent footballer Bruce Marak gave away the trophy and cash prize to the winning teams.
The month long tournament saw participation of 15 teams.
It is a unique tournament held for the past 20 years. It gives the players of yesteryear a platform to show their skill and gusto for the game.
“The tournament gives an opportunity for young footballers to engage in the spirit of the game. It also motivates many upcoming talents vis-à-vis demonstrates the gusto of aged players, who keeps themselves fit with regular exercise and practice”, said Jasper Marak, district sports officer of West and South West Garo hills and also the president of District Football Association (DFA).
Newton Ch. Sangma of Tetengaja was adjusted as the best goalkeeper of the tournament, while Chengsin Marak of Okkapara as defender of the tournament, Swellington of North Tura as best midfielder, Dimseng of Dobasipara as best striker, and player of the tournament Brother Lawrence of Daldagre.
The player of the final match was given to Dicker of Dobasipara.-From Our Correspondent
