SHILLONG, MAY 8: Many houses were damaged and some people were injured when cyclone ravaged two villages under the Ri Bhoi district on Thursday afternoon. It is learnt that in Nonglum village two persons were injured and in Boirymbong Sohpdok three sustained injuries due to the cyclone.
According to the Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner Pooja Pandey all the five were admitted in two different Community Health Centers (CHCs) She informed that the injured in Sohpdok were admitted in the Umsning CHC. Of the two, one has been discharged.
Pandey also informed that the district administration has rushed medical aids to the two villages. She said a BDO was also rushed to the affect villages to see what necessary reliefs the affected people will need. She said as the assessment of the damage caused to the houses and properties by the cyclone are still being assessed she will be able to tell the extent of the damage only after receiving the report.
Cyclonic storms had ravaged some of the villages in Ri Bhoi district earlier too. On May 2 cyclonic storm had killed a woman and injured another at Nongthymmai village under Umiam police station
The cyclonic storm affected villages includes Liarbang, Khyndewso and other adjoining villages under Umsning C&RD Block. It is learnt that cyclonic storm and incessant rains damaged several houses including one at Liarbang village and three houses at Khyndewso village.
The woman who was killed in the storm had been identified as Anasuk Shadap, aged 48. She was killed in her hut in the agriculture field when a big tree fell on the hut.
In another similar cyclonic storm incident, local headman of Khyndewso village Joshuwa Mynsong informed that the storm hit several houses in Khyndewso village damaging four houses.
Mynsong informed four electricity poles were damaged but nobody was injured.- By Our Reporter
