TURA, NOV 15: Shops in Tura on Tuesday kept their shutters down due to currency crisis, which has posed a severe challenge. The unending lines at ATMs and banks across the town are yet to normalize.
Shop owners say that they do not have currency change to give back to customers. They also fear of having to provide goods and commodities on credit.
“Everyone is coming to our shop with either Rs 500 or Rs 1000 note and after buying goods flashing the money. We have literally no way of returning the change as there is really no change,” said a shop owner in Tura market.
Almost 60 per cent shops in the town were closed today.
Many shopkeepers also complain that they do not have change for the new Rs. 2000 note, as banks have not been able to provide enough currency change.
Open shops demand customers to utilize the full currency amount as they are unable to return change.
