SHILLONG, OCT 25: Demanding an investigation by National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the killing of IB official, the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) said the murder of the official will be putting fear into the officials that are serving to protect the people of the state.

CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing condemned the murder of IB officer Bikash Kumar Singh and a cloth merchant  Kamal Saha, whose bodies were recovered on Saturday after  both of them were kidnapped from Panda Reserve Forest while travelling from Rongapara to Baghmara, South Garo hills on September 24.

Kharshiing claimed that the CSWO has been informed by an insider that there are many target killings and kidnappings even as coal barons and businessmen are having proximity because they are  sharing business of coal quarries with high ranking cops and are never targeted but seems to get away with any crime.

Kharshiing said in West Khasi hills militants seem to be walking freely with weapons and ‘khukris’.

“The organization was also informed that Bikash Kumar Singh got wind of very important information in Shillong and he was transferred to South Garo hills after that,” Kharshiing stated.

She said Meghalaya society, especially Garo hills, is not a violent society except for few which the police seem to protect and when demands are made for transfer of such police there is no action from the government who seems hell bent in protecting the evil ones.

“Fake encounters are encouraged and perpetrators are awarded by the Presidents medal and the state medal. Honest and hardworking officials and personnel are sidelined, kicked around as footballs or killed,” Kharshiing said.

Kharshiing said the NIA has to track down if the phone of this officer was tapped as she felt anything can happen with the big bosses involved in all the shady deals from corruption to coal mining to allowing extortion and having all the knowhow to do subvert intelligence gathering  by tapping calls of all who oppose their offences.- By Our Reporter
