Court directs police to register case against ministers involved in teacher job scam

Shillong, Nov 22: District court first class judicial magistrate I Rymbui ordered the police to register the case based on an FIR filed by the activists Angela Ryngad and Agnes Kharshiing  against ministers and legislators involved in the government’s assistant teachers job scam who have been named in the CBI report submitted to the Shillong bench of Guahati high court.

The CBI report had named five cabinet ministers, the assembly Speaker, deputy speaker and
six legislators who influenced the process of selection of the teachers in 2010. Urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh- who was then holding the education portfolio- had been indicted in the report for ordering tampering of the answer sheets so that candidates favoured by ministers and legislators can be selected.

The court of Rymbui also directed the East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang to file a compliance report before the court in November 30.The judicial magistrate passed the order after the RTI activists filed an application in the court seeking the court intervention to direct the police to register the case.

In the order, Rymbui also directed the police officers of Laitumkhrah Police Station where the FIR was filed to register case and monitor the investigation.

The activists had on November 7 sought police action against the ministers and legislators named by the CBI in the job scam that rocked Meghalaya.- By Our Reporter
