Cong refers political parties as ‘Judas in operation’

SHILLONG, FEB 12: The ruling Congress today referred the political parties which are allegedly supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as “Judas in operation” and urged the people of Meghalaya to be careful in the upcoming Assembly polls.

“These (political parties which are supporting the BJP) are Judas in operation. These are people who have sold their souls and now their bodies are on sale. These are the people who have compromised with the devil because of power,” AICC national spokesman Tom Vaddakan told journalists on Monday.

He claimed that the Congress alone is not in Meghalaya for power bargaining but is here to protect its culture and its interest.

Asked that the Congress is more into BJP bashing but sparing other political parties which are its formidable opponents in the upcoming polls, Vaddakan said that the BJP does not have nerve to come down here strongly.

However, the All India Congress Committee leader refused to name the political parties which are maintaining a close link with the BJP.

“I don’t want to go into naming anybody as there are certain rules of the Election Commission but I submit to your wisdom and intelligent (as to who are these political parties),” he said.

Not denying that the National People’s Party (NPP), an ally of the NDA, is working for the BJP, Vaddakan said, “Yes they (BJP-NPP) are both one and this is a front to come to power through the backdoor. The backdoor technology is what they master and they are misusing the constitution…you have seen that in Goa. All I am saying is that Judas is in town so be careful.”

Meanwhile, the Congress leader further slammed the BJP-led NDA government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for lying to the common man by taking steps that are adversely affecting their daily lives.

Referring to the demonetization exercise, Vaddakan said that it was like a tsunami that hit the Indian economy and left 150 people dead. He recalled that hardworking common people of the country had to leave aside everything to make queues for days in front ATM’s and inside banks to collect their own money.

“It is evident that demonetization affected the poor and hard working common people the most instead of the rich hoarders of black money and the corporate coterie,” he said.

He said that instead of Prime Minister’s promise of generating two crore jobs every year for the unemployed, people lost their jobs.

“According to the RSS affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) which is a part of the BJP party about 20 lakh people or more have have lost their jobs due to demonetization. Has the PM bothered to find out what happened to all those who lost their businesses and jobs due to his impulsive declaration of November 8, 2016?” he said.

Vaddakan also said that the tall claims of the PM that demonetization will root out black money, circulation of fake notes and terrorism has fallen flat on his face adding instead this turned out to be Independent’s biggest financial scam that took people’s money and burned pockets.

On the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the AICC leader said this was used as a surgical strike on the common man even as course corrections were being done on the eve of Gujarat elections.

Stating that today prices of petrol have hit the roof, while international prices remained stable, he questioned the BJP for its failure to bring petroleum product under the GST.

“This (failure) is because the oil companies will get affected. This is cheating the people of the country as this is a thank you note from the government to the corporate,” he said.

He also alleged that the BJP-led NDA government is bargaining for clearance of the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill, without divulging how the common man is going to be protected under this Act.

“The unholy ‘Bail-in’ clause will allow the use of depositors’ hard earned money to help banks bail themselves out when they go bankrupt. The FRDI Bill is silent on the protection to the depositors hard earned money and the necessity of including the unholy Bail-in clause,” he said.

“The finance minister tells us that let us clear the bill first and then we will talk about protection to the common man. But can we negotiate with a government who has lost all credibility,” Vaddakan said while alleging that hard earned savings is even unsafe in the banking system with almost 15 banks in the public sector are in the red (as per reports).
