SHILLONG, MAY 12: The Committee for Institutionalization and Empowerment of Traditional Institutions would soon convene its first sitting on May 20. The meeting was fixed after the 50 member committee headed by government’s chief adviser DD Lapang was recently modified.
“Notices for the same will also be issued to all concerned members,” said a government release issued on Tuesday.
The decision to modify the Committee came after a meeting involving the representatives of traditional institutions, the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, MLAs from Garo Hills and other stakeholders held at Tura on April 24, where it was declared that more representation was required from Garo hills in the Committee under the chairmanship of DD Lapang.
The proposed additional names of members are expected to be received soon.Similarly, a representation of inclusion of additional members representing women’s groups was also received on April 28 which is being considered by the government.
