CM: Will create film infrastructure in city

SHILLONG, AUG 4: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday announced creation of the required infrastructures to promote the budding film industry in the state besides setting up of centres to produce and export ‘music-gurus’ to Bollywood.

“My state government takes the privilege of announcing to filmmakers and all who are directly or indirectly connected to the film industry that we will be extending full support by creating the required infrastructures,” Sangma said while addressing the inaugural function of the Indian Panorama Film Festival 2016 on Thursday.

Stating that the infrastructures like screening of films is important to reach out to a larger audience, he said that this will ensure that filmmakers do not get displaced when big Bollywood films are released in Shillong.

According to him, the government will try to get an insight into the problems of the industry and accordingly find a way to find solutions.

Urging filmmakers to take it as a challenge, Sangma said, “You have made the beginning and it is time for you to conquer the world.” He said filmmakers must take advantage of the technologies to overcome the menace of piracy.

The chief minister also announced that the government is all set to inaugurate two centres of excellence for musics at Shillong and Tura to ensure Meghalaya becomes a producer of Gurus in the field of musics.

“This will also enable us to export them to Bollywood… if you want pianists or any others, Shillong will be the destination,” he said adding that the government is committed to make efforts to do justice to the youths with talents.

Sangma also appealed to filmmakers to consider connecting the rich diversity, the way of life and culture of Meghalaya and NE states in their scripts. He said, “I am ready to give you some script… there are collection of stories pertaining to various culture and way of life of different ethnic groups.”

He termed Shillong as a ‘store-house’ of undiscovered folklore stories which can connect the place with the rest of the world.

“I am sure that friends from other parts of the country who understands huge opportunities that lies for the future can collaborate for the folklore stories which are linked with culture,” he added.

Stating that Shillong, Meghalaya is much safer with its peaceful and conducive environment, Sangma said, “I call upon all our friends who understand the important of this enabling environment to make it more sustainable.”

Sangma said that the Indian Panorama Film Festival 2016 is one positive stories that enables the people of the state to connect with the rest of the world.

The film festival is organized jointly by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of India and the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Govt of Meghalaya.

The cast and crew of ‘Ramsingh Charlie’ including lead actor, Kumud Mishra, lead actress, Divya Dutta and the Director Nitin Kakkar has also participated in the Indian Panorama Film Festival 2016.-By Our Reporter
