CM lays base for Pasyih-Garampani road, Wahiajer Multi Sports Complex

Connecting Meghalaya to Assam, the Pasyih – Garampani road is a State Highway starting from 8th Mile of Jowai – Ratacherra Road (NH 6) and ends at Saphai near the boundary of Meghalaya – Assam Border. The total length is 46.982 Km.

The portion of this road from 21st Km to 47th Km (Total length of 26.982 Km) has been sanctioned under Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP) funded by World bank.

The road passes through several villages including Pyntei, Biar, Chatwakhu, Nongkroh, Lakadong, Theym & Saphai habitation areas. The total cost of the project is Rs 62,49,18,004.00 (Rupees Sixty-two Crore Forty-nine Lakhs Eighteen Thousand Four) only.

After laying the foundation stone for the Pasyih-Garampani road, the chief minister stated that it is the government’s concerted effort to focus on infrastructure development across the state.

He said that the project is a step towards fulfilling the needs of the people of the area for better roads and will strengthen connectivity between neighbouring villages in the area.

He further added that the project will not only benefit the people of the area but the entire Jaiñtia Hills region.

Later, the chief minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Wahiajer Multi Sports Complex with the aim to enhance sports infrastructure in the state.

The project is funded through State Plan Scheme and Sports Authority of India’s Khelo India Infrastructure Scheme at Rs 24,97,11,000.

Chief Minister asserted that the provision of sports infrastructure will help hone the skills of sporting talents from the area and will encourage the youth of the State to take up sports as a career.

Touching on the Meghalaya State Sports Policy, Sangma said that policies are being formulated to give direction to Departments and guidance to the Government to create such infrastructure for the youth of the State to excel in their skill and passion and encourage them to follow their dreams.

He lauded the Sports department for its dedication and dedicated the project to the youth of Jaiñtia Hills District.

The sports infrastructure would benefit the various Youth, Educational Institutions, Clubs and sports associations in Wahiajer to organize and conduct regular competitions and tournaments.

The elements of this project include the development of an AIFF certified Synthetic Football Turf, AFI certified Synthetic Athletics Track, VIP and Spectator Seating Galleries, Modern Changing Room Facilities, Office Spaces and Circulation Areas.

Those present on both the occasions include Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, MLAs Comingone Ymbon, Nujorki Sungoh and Wailadmiki Shylla.
