CM launches ‘Whatsapp-based PGRM’ to address public grievances

IMG_20190121_154152SHILLONG, JAN 21: Citizens can now lodge their complaints and grievances directly to the chief minister through a famous social media platform – ‘Whatsapp’.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on the occasion of the 47th Meghalaya Day celebration launched the ‘CM’s Whatsapp based Public Grievance Redress Mechanism’ with the objective to improve overall governance in the state.

“It is an effort of the government and the CM to reach out to the people. The idea is to have a platform where people could at least express their concerns and grievances directly to the chief minister’s office,” Sangma said while speaking at the launching of the system here on Monday.

Stating that this is not a complete resolving system, he said it is an access to the CM’s office adding that a lot of problems are there at the grass-root level and are very easy to resolve but are not resolve because the public is not able to reach the right authorities.

“Therefore, we are not coming here with a system to say that everything will be resolved in one or two days as a lot of the problems may not be resolvable but the idea is that  at least a platform is there where people can have access. Some problems are very simple but just because they cannot get across to the right platform and right people therefore these problems remain unresolved,” Sangma said.

He said a dedicated team would share the information received through the system with the concerned departments for taking up necessary actions to address the problem.

Elaborating more on the objective of the platform, the chief minister said the data and information that comes to the CMO will further allow the government to analyse the problems that are plaguing a particular department, district or area in the state.

“This data will help us analyse the problems that are there and that will help us to improve our system and specifically work in improving the governance at the grassroot level,” he said.

Sangma further added that there may be the downside of the system as there is a lot of expectation from the people and lot of complaints which may be unnecessary or fake.

However, all systems come with both positive and negative but we feel the plus point is at the positive side which will outweigh the negative points, he stated.
