Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lyngdoh highlighted on the importance of civil servants working in unison with the political leaders as the two are inseparable in effective public service delivery. While stressing on ensuring accountability at both political and bureaucratic level, she exhorted the civil servants to fight against all odds and break barriers for good governance. While emphasizing that perseverance, dedication and hard-work are the key elements to good governance, she called upon the officers to take up the challenges and contribute for the betterment of the state and the society as a whole and make ‘people feel worthy and proud of being Indian citizens.’
Earlier, while delivering the welcome address, Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Shri.K.S Kropha, IAS spoke of the need to break the stereotype and focus on citizen-centric governance. Shri. Kropha also said that the key to effective service delivery lay in the synergy between the political leadership and the bureaucracy and urged upon all concerned to contribute their best in the interest of the state and the nation.
Later in the day, the address of the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi was webcasted live from Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of the 11th Civil Services Day.
The inaugural function was followed by three technical sessions with Dr. A. Didar Singh, IAS (retd), Secretary General, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Shri. P J P Hanaman, IPS (retd), Member Meghalaya Human Rights Commission and a team of officers from the Forest & Environment Department, Meghalaya respectively.
