SHILLONG, APR 20: The Civil Services Day under the theme, “Emerging Challenges in Governance” was celebrated at the State Convention Centre on Monday with Meghalaya deputy chief minister Dr RC Laloo gracing the occasion as the chief guest while Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri was the guest of honour.
Addressing the inaugural function, Laloo said that the people of the country has become more demanding and as such the civil servants have to be more proactive and responsible and upgrade their effectiveness to address the growing need. He urged the civil servants to use the latest technologies that are available in order to tackle the emerging challenges in the present governance and also for a good service delivery to the people and for the nation as a whole.
Warjri said that civil service has done a commendable job with the emerging challenges in the present day governance. She urged the officers to rededicate themselves to the cause of the people and serve the nation to the best. “The process of administration has to be re-engineered to adapt with the ever changing generation for the delivery of good governance so as to enable the civil servants to address the expectations of the people and the nation,” she added.
Delivering the keynote, Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri said that the interaction and close association with the ministers is the most dynamic relationship for the smooth delivery of service. He added that the basic duties with regards to the ethical adherence and to the Constitution remains the same and urged the officer to update themselves with the expectations of the pressure groups and to identify those between the society and that of an individual and to deal with necessary requirements accordingly for the development of the society and the nation.
Others who spoke at the inaugural function were MR Synrem, Secretary , Meghalaya government and Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district.
The inaugural function was followed by a panel discussion on a theme, “Emerging Challenges In Governance” whereby PS Kumar, IAS moderated the discussions and AK Tigidi, IAS (Retd), UK Sangma, IAS, (Retd), N. Ramachandran, IPS (Retd), VK Nautiyal, IFS (Retd) and Toki Blah presided over as panelist members.
Presentations were also made on various topics namely, “Black Topping of Rural Roads” by KN Kumar, principal secretary, “Community Participation in Increasing the Protected Forest Area in Meghalaya” by Y S Shullai, additional PCCF, “Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme” by MR Synrem, Secretary, “Safe and Secure Shillong” by M Kharkrang, East Khasi hills SP, Shillong “Integrated Village Development Plan” by AS Suting, Research Officer and“Enterprise Facilitation Centre” by P Jain, principal secretary.- By Our Reporter
