SHILLONG, MAY 9: The HNYF has imposed a ban on the use of blast while fishing in the rivers and killing of animals in the Ri-Bhoi district in order to protect aquatic and wild life.
HNYF Nongpoh circle president S. Nongkling said that his organization was very concerned over the illegal killing of fishes and animals in the district. “There are two famous rivers in Ri-Bhoi district – Umran and Laidlad rivers. However, due to lack of restriction by the wildlife department, local people kill fishes in the rivers by using blast and shoot animals even in the reserved forests,” he said.
The HNYF warned of strong actions against anyone found fishing with the help of blasts and killing wild animals in the district. “We would also urge the state government and the wildlife department to remain vigilant so as to ensure the protection of aquatic and wild life in the district,” he added.
