SHILLONG, JUNE 2: A meeting between the chief secretaries of Assam and Meghalaya was held in Shillong on Monday to workout sharing arrangement of the joint IAS ,IPS and IFS cadres between the two neighbouring states.
Assam chief secretary Jitesh Khosla told reporters after the meeting, “This is the joint cadres. The two states have joint cadres where the officers from Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS) are shared between the two states… So now, the sharing arrangements as to which officers have to go where, those arrangements have to be worked out.”
Meghalaya chief secretary WMS Pariat, however, refused to talk to the reporters leaving the briefing to his Assam counterpart.
Khosla was accompanied by Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Khagen Sarma. The meeting was held in the chamber of Meghalaya Chief Secretary WMS Pariat. Meghalaya DGP PJP Hanaman besides other senior officials also attended the meeting.
Khosal also informed that the meeting also discussed issues relating to the career provisions of the officers and their promotions.
“We want to do it in a manner so that there is some kind of a balance and parity in the officers between Meghalaya and Assam,” Khosla stated.
Khosla said such meeting is being held periodically between two states as it also gives a very good opportunity to the officers of both states to meet each other.
On being asked whether the meeting also deliberated on the age-old pending boundary disputes, Khosla, however, said, “Both the state have a very good mechanism in place to deal with such situation.” – By Our Reporter
