NPP leader and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the decision was unanimous as far as appointment of the new state president of the party is concerned.

“The party has decided to appoint a new president of the NPP and we are happy that the decision was unanimous and all agreed that the right person to take this responsibility is Prestone Tynsong,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

She said Tynsong, with his wealth of experience and who has taken different responsibilities, understands that political acumen in the NPP should be there.

“I believe like Dr Kharlukhi, Tynsong too will be able to unite and take forward the party to protect the people and the state,” she added.

Tynsong, who is NPP national vice president and deputy chief minister, took over as new state president after lone Rajya Sabha MP Dr WR Kharlukhi has requested that he be relieved from the post. Dr Kharlukhi has been the state president of NPP for 16 years.
