SHILLONG, JUNE 19: An Anganwadi worker Balisha Lyngdoh was allegedly terminated after 23 days of being appointed to the post by the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), who claimed that the reason for the sudden cancellation of the appointment letter was due to a ‘typing error.’
Balisha Lyngdoh was appointed as an anganwadi worker in the Mawlamwir Sector 7-A Centre under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) Project in South West Khasi hills after she was declared as one of the successful candidates having cleared the written/personal interview for the post.
Out of 9 candidates, four cleared the personal interview in the result declared by the ICDS office on March 30, this year. The advertisement for the post was published on March 20.
“After working for over 23 days, all of a sudden a cancellation order of the appointment letter was issued by the CDPO,” Lyngdoh told reporters at a news conference on Friday.
She, however, informed that the CDPO ML Shira instead appointed a candidate having roll number AWW 102, who allegedly was never in the list of successful candidates for the personal interview.
Shocked by the decision to terminate her, Lyngdoh sought a clarification from the CDPO on what ground was she terminated when she was declared successful and was also given an appointment letter for the post.
“Interestingly in her reply, the CDPO clarified that the reason for cancellation of the appointment letter was that the office committed human error due to a ‘typing mistake’ in the result,” Lyngdoh said while informing the CDPO had also allegedly offered her an admit card to appear for the written test of an Anganwade helper post.
Lyngdoh, however, rejected the offer on the ground that the decision to cancel was ‘unacceptable’ when she had been declared as a successful candidate in the result of the personal interview.
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) in South West Khasi hills intervened had condemned the action of the CDPO saying this is an attempt to manipulate the results.
The union demanded for immediate re-inclusion of Lyngdoh in the post and also removal of the CDPO from the district within a period of one month.
“The argument of the CDPO that it was due to human error and typing mistake is something which cannot be accepted as this is depriving the right of a deserving candidate. We feel that there is something behind and it is just an attempt to manipulate the system of recruitment to the Anganwadi post,” KSU-Mawkyrwat Circle president Forwardman Nongrum told reporters.
Therefore, Nongrum said, “We demand the state government and the Social Welfare department to immediately transfer the CDPO from the project in the district within one month.”
According to him, if the CDPO can make mistake for a simple post like an Anganwadi worker drawing a salary of only Rs 3000, how can people have confident in such an officer to handle a project worth of lakhs of rupees.
“We also demand the government to re-include Lyngdoh in the list of successful candidates as was declared on March 30 and re-appoint her to the post within the stipulated time put forth by the union,” he said.- By Our Reporter
