Shillong, Nov 21: High-tech Chennai based hospital “Apollo” is all set to put up its “training centre” – a pilot project of the Apolo MedSkills Limited in Meghalaya which is the first of its kind in the North Eastern region to impart skills development in terms of paramedical education linked with job opportunities and reducing growing unemployment problem in the region.
“We are starting-off with our first center in Meghalaya by Janaury-March 2013,” Apollo MedSkills Ltd chief executive officer, Dr K Prabakar told reporters at the sideline of the North East Career and Skills Expo held in the city Wednesday.
The project is a joint venture taken up with the support of the National Skills Development Corporation.
Prabakar informed that the institute has identified a 3000 sq ft land for the setting up of the centre which will have three classrooms equipped with assimilation laboratory, computer laboratory and video conferencing facilities.” Meghalaya will be the first of the 47 centers to be set up all across the country.
The Meghalaya center will have two different courses and Prabakar informed that one course will be for upscaling doctors and nurses while the other is for students from the higher secondary level of education. Doctors can take up an online programme courses and upscale themselves. Similarly nurses who are already working can also take up course for upscaling their skills.
When the centre comes up higher secondary school students will have the opportunity to get to study paramedical education. The courses are also design for students who have passed their XII standard. Prabakar said, “We are bringing in a one year diploma courses with internship opportunity in hospitals along with skill and knowledge development simultaneously.” – By Our Reporter
