TURA, DEC 1: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) said that the outfit has provision which allows members to leave. The outfit statement came in response to the police claim that members of the outfit are afraid to surrender because of its Commander-in-Chief Sohan D. Shira.
In a statement issue by the GNLA joint publicity secretary by Garo Mandei Ch. Marak on Monday it said, “There are provisions written in the constitution of GNLA that if anybody needs to leave and carry on with normal open life they are allowed to go and there are no restrictions imposed by the organisation”,.
The GNLA castigated the police for its failure to stop the activities of “dacoits” and “goons”, who it said are on extortion and kidnapping spree for even Rs. 5000 in Garo hills. The statement said,“This is a disgrace that they have failed to stop activities of goons, who are blackmailing and kidnapping people.”
The GNLA also asked the police that if they are not being able to neutralise the activities of the dacoits, they are willing to eliminate them. “Police better leave their job and hand over the tasks of eliminating these goons to us. We will crush them just in few days”, the statement added.
Hinting at the police for putting the blame on the outfit for recruiting young people, the GNLA said, “Why the government has neglected to retain these young people by employing them?”
Stating that police is harassing the public by accusing them of being militants, the statement said, “They (police) are really great in keeping spies to check whether someone is in Facebook, who look like militants. Such is a senseless and shabby intelligence of Meghalaya police today. This is the sorry state, where government is using crores for state’s security just to make many wrongful accusation, diversions and tall claims in the media that they are doing something productive, while they are really a disappointment with no positive results.”- From Our Correspondent
