SHILLONG, JAN 11: In what appears to be a fissure within the A’chik National Volunteer Council (ANVC-B), the outfit on Saturday disowned the statement of its political secretary, Ajaju R Marak saying that he had issued baseless accusations on Friday to disrupt the ‘peace settlement’.
On Friday Marak has emailed the open letter written to the chief minister on December 28, 2013, saying that outfit will walk out of the peace pact and return back to the jungle. In the letter, he had also alleged the nexus between the chief minister and the outfit.
However a day after Marak’s statement, the ANVC (B) publicity secretary Doang D Shira said, The ANVC(B) will stay and will not abandon the peace settlement.” He also informed that the political secretary is not authorized to many any decision on behalf of the outfit. He said, “Ajaju is making baseless accusations to disrupt the peace settlement.”
Shira also informed in a press statement that Ajaju had deserted the organisation after posting his letter from the ANVC (B) official mail ID yesterday which was unauthorized.
Shira urged the government and the leaders of the society to support the cadres who have come to join the mainstream instead of making them feel insecure.
In the statement issued on Saturday Shira said, “Ajaju is very aggressive on police trespassing and displacing the ANVC (B) cadres stating chairman Rimpu Marak is too feeble to make any retaliation which led to the death and disappearances of many cadres.”.
The statement also informed that Nado and Rangdo left before the political secretary after accusing the United Christian Peace Forum, ngos and church leaders of being mute while Garo youths were displaced and hunted like animals.
Shira also said that the desperation of the cadres will only disrupt the PEACE in Garo hills for which he said sensible initiative from the government and social leaders will help in keeping intact their faith on the peace process..
Shira reiterated that the ANVC(B) will not abandon the agreement signed by the chairman nor w will it retaliate. He rather appealed to the government work out to ensure safety and rehabilitee its cadres.- By Our Reporter
