AMPSTA to abstain stir

SHILLONG, SEPT 9: The All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA) has unanimously decided not to participate in the agitations sponsored by the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM) proposed to start from September 11.

The decision was taken at the AMPSTA executive committee meeting held recently.

“We have resolved not to participate in the ongoing agitation called by the JACATAM as most of the members are not aware of their demands,” AMPSTA asst general secretary T Tiewsoh said in a statement i on Monday.

Tiewsoh said that the meeting also decided that if any action is taken by the authority against any members who participate in the agitational programmes organized by the JACATAM they will individually have to be responsible.

Saying that the Meghalaya deputy chief minister  RC Laloo who is holding the education portfolio recently announced that his door is open at anytime for talks, Tiewsoh said, “The committee has decided that a delegation of twenty members of AMPSTA will meet the education minister on September 30 to demand for a final solution on their demands.”

The demands listed by the AMPSTA includes cut off month and year on the head teacher allowance and CPF and gratuity DCRG of  non government lower primary school teachers, advance increment for higher qualification with effect from January 1, 2004 among others.- By Our Reporter
