SHILLONG, OCT 15: Bollywood actor and North East United FC co-owner John Abraham paid a visit to St. Edmund’s College and interacted with the students on Wednesday.
Responding to queries from students as to why he selected North East instead of other places in the country, Abraham said that other places have come to the limelight because of cricket now it is the time for north east to shine through football because it is a popular sport in region.
Abraham also made a special mentioned of the closeness he had with Larsing Ming Sawyan the owner of Shillong Lajong and co-owner of NEUFC, Ronnie an alumnus of St. Edmund’s College and other friends who loved the game like him. He said this made him think about the people of north east and he wanted them to grow through the sport they are good at.
On the question whether he will bring football stars, in the near future, Abraham did not rule this out but said his main aim is to give the North East people a chance to play with the football stars and learn from them and thereby grow as professionals.
Answering query to personal question about his life style, Abraham confessed that he was from a middle class background but self discipline, avoiding vices like drinking and smoking and keeping to the schedule of early to bed and early to rise has made him what he is today and he urged students to be self-discipline and work hard. The students of St. Edmund’s College were thrilled to see, meet and hear from him and a encouraged by him.
Dr Sylvanus Lamare, the principal, welcome him and thanked him on behalf of the people of north east for joining hands with likeminded people to build and to own North East United FC .He also said that the short visit will remain as an inspiration to the students of the college.- By Our Reporter
