Action against B’deshi intruders sought

SHILLONG, MAY 14: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HYNF) has sought action against Bangladeshi nationals who are intruding and are illegally lifting stone boulders from Indian Territory.

In a complaint submitted to the Inspector General (IG) of Border Security Force here on Monday, HNYF office secretary Donbok Dkhar said, “We appeal to your office to take immediate steps to stop the illegal activities by the illegal intruders before the matter goes out of hand as it might come into direct conflict with the locals of the area.”

The HNYF, which is also a member of the Coordination Committee on International Border (CCIB), alleging that up to 50 boats of Bangladeshis on a daily basis are intruding into the Indian land at Dawki area in West Jaintia Hills District with the sole purpose of lifting the stone boulders.

Slamming the inaction of the BSF, Dkhar said, “These incidences of stone boulders lifting occurs under the watchful eyes of the BSF personnel posted in the area who choose to turn blind eyes to the illegal activities of the foreign intruders, this in spite of the availability of necessary equipment to counter such illegal activities ,including speed boats.”

He further informed that residents of Darrang village under Dawki on May 2, at around 2 am, had to take matters into their own hands by chasing away the Bangladeshis boat and apprehended two of their boats.

“These Bangladeshis even dared to cross more than 700 meters from the Indo –Bangla Pillar to carry out their illegal activities,” Dkhar said while seeking the immediate intervention of the IG into the matter.
