SHILLONG, MAR 28: Shillong was treated to an enchanting music and songs as traditional and western classical music were played in a performance entitled The Chant which is an amalgamation of the music of the different tribal music of the north eastern hills staged at Anton hall in Laitumkhrah on Saturday evening.

Martin Luther Christian University-MLCU- students of the department of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Bengalore Conservatory, Bangalore performed to a packed audience on Friday evening.

The evening sponsored by the NSS Unit, MLCU started off with The Chant which is an amalgamation of the music of the different tribal music of the North Eastern Hills of India. The students of Fine Arts took the audience through the different tunes of the hills of north east India including a Pnar performance, instrumental piece comprising of both traditional Khasi and western instruments.

The students and teachers of the Bangalore Conservatory performed an instrumental piece with four guitars to the tune of the famous soundtrack of the Western Classic “The Good, the Bad, The Ugly”.

The visiting team later enthralled the audience with their Bell ensemble by performing two pieces just on bells.

The concert on Friday was the culmination of a three day exchange programme between the two institutes which began on March 25. The exchange programme included workshops conducted by the teachers of both the institutes.- By Our Reporter
